Two companies with unique approaches to tackling vexing educational challenges have agreed to launch a joint effort to develop a web-based version of one of North America’s leading literacy programs.

ReadRight Systems CEO Tom Brown, and Indigenous Learning Company CEO Randy Morse have committed their two companies to a series of pilots designed to develop powerful new ways of delivering Read Right’s highly successful reading intervention programs for at-risk Native American K-12 students.

“We’re proud of our 15 year track record of helping struggling students become outstanding readers,” says Brown. “We’ve wanted to extend the reach and impact of our programs for some time now. The web seems the likeliest way to do that, and we believe we’ve found the right partner to help us make the best possible use of this medium in the Indigenous Learning Company,” Brown added.

“ILC is one of the world’s only web-based educational publishing companies wholly owned and operated by Native people,” states Morse. “Native students as a group are not doing well. Something has to change – and fast – if Native kids are to have a shot at leading fulfilling lives. Literacy ranks right at the top of the list when it comes to educational areas in need of vast improvement. Everywhere we go, we hear good things about the “traditional” Read Right program. We’re looking forward to working with Tom and his talented colleagues to bring that program online, integrating it with compelling web-based curriculum resources and support programs. This will allow us, working closely together, to bring a new Read Right/ILC literacy solution to a greatly expanded audience of indigenous kids, while providing excellent support for their teachers and tutors,” Morse adds.

Preliminary plans call for an initial focus on first and fifth grade pilot programs. While piloting could eventually spread across the continent, Washington, Florida, California, and Alberta are the first targeted jurisdictions.
